Japan Relief Trip

Ben and Amee are heading over to Japan on the 21st of May for a week to partner with CSJ with the ongoing tsunami relief work. The link below is a short video of what we are expecting to be involved with.

Practically the main purpose of the trip is to provide physical relief work to the affected communities of north-east Japan, but spiritually this is an awesome opportunity to be shining lamps of God’s love in a very open and needy environment. Please read through the PDF document which gives a general description of the mission proposal.

Due to the immediacy of this trip many are limited in their ability to mobilise at such short notice. On this trip we will be assessing the opportunity for another team to be mobilised in the coming months and this will be on the basis of a number of aspects including:

  • ability for CSJ to host future team/s (amongst other teams from across the world)
  • a suitable leader to step up to lead this team
  • the ongoing needs of the Japanese people

It must be noted that those interested in the outreach understand that they will be entering Japan at their own risk and the leader and/or Christian Surfers do not take responsibility for the individual’s decision. I also then encourage you to read through the following 2 web sites as they have a lot of information on the levels of risk of radiation.

http://www.smartraveller.gov.au/zw-cgi/view/Advice/Japan

http://www.smartraveller.gov.au/zw-cgi/view/TravelBulletins/Information_on_radiation_for_Australians_in_Japan

Any mission team will be keeping outside the Australian government recommended exclusion zone of 80km from the plant. At this area the levels of radiation are about 0.07 which is about 3 times less than that you would experience on a long haul flight. Next to the plant levels are 590. At the Japanese recommended exclusion zone of 30km the levels are about 0.3. Suffice to say we are going to be playing it pretty safe.

Please feel free to contact me should you require further information or if you wish to assist in some other way. Most of all, please pray for CSJ and those currently assisting with relief work, that they will be strengthened and encouraged with Gods power as they face this ongoing challenge.
