What is christian surfers?
Christian Surfers Australia currently has around 25 Christian Surfers groups which are located all around Australia. Each group has a different feel and purpose. Some groups meet for a Saturday morning surf and bible study, others may have regular surf comps, while others may meet for a mid week learn to surf crew. Whatever the style of the group, these groups operate to provide social connection, to encourage participation in a healthy active lifestyle and to enable people to learn more about God in a safe and supportive environment. At our core these groups exist so that every surfer in every surfing community has the opportunity to know and follow Jesus.
How do I join a Christian Surfers group?
We are stoked that you are interested in joining a Christian Surfers group. Our local groups are called missions, and you can search for a group near you under the ‘Missions’ tab on our website. Here you will also find contact details for each mission. Contact your local mission or you can speak to your Regional Coordinator or contact the National Office and we can provide you with more information.
How do I start a new Christian Surfers Mission?
Contact your Regional Coordinator or the National Office and we can provide you with more information. In order to start a new mission each mission must have the following in place to operate.
2- 3 Leaders.
Have completed the Mission Affiliation Form.
All Leaders have a current WWCC/Blue Card and have completed their Leadership Form.
All Leaders have completed the CSA Leaders Training (to familiarise with the CSA Policies). (every 2 years)
All Leaders have completed their Safety Management Online (SMO) Child Safety Training. (every 2 years)
You have a supportive church/faith community.
1-2 Leaders have Senior First Aid Training.
1-2 Leaders have Bronze Medallion or Surf Rescue Training.
You have an adequate First Aid Kit.
How do I become a Christian Surfers Leader?
Becoming a leader is a commitment to God and the surfing community, Christian Surfers takes this very seriously. To find out more speak to your local Christian Surfers Mission Coordinator, Regional Coordinator or contact the National Office. In order to become a leader with Christian Surfers you need to complete our Leadership Process. This includes agreeing to our Statement of Faith, holding a current Working With Children Check, completing our CSA Training which includes reading our Policies and completing the appropriate Child Safety Training.
DO I HAVE TO SURF TO JOIN CHRISTIAN SURFERS?
No, you do not have to surf to join Christian Surfers. We are a welcoming community consisting of non surfers, beginners, and up to advanced surfers. If you are however participating in a surfing day or event run by Christian Surfers all participants will need to indicate your surfing/swimming level to the event organisers and only participate at your own risk, assessing conditions accordingly and signing an indemnity form to participate. (Parents to sign if participants are under 18 years old.)
Do I need to be a christian to join Christian surfers?
No, we welcome people from all faith backgrounds to join our local groups and participate in our programs. Please be aware however that as we are a Christian organisation our groups present christian teachings at their meetings and events.
